Research Data Series

REIA Research Data Series spreadsheets contain quarterly median values, dating from the beginning of the REIA data collections through to the current quarter, for all capital cities where data were available. In most cases the data series began in the March quarter 1980 with median values for six of the eight capital cities. Data for Hobart and Darwin were added later as they became available. REIA does not have any data on property prices or property rents prior to the March quarter 1980.

Spreadsheets currently available are as follows:

Prices:

  • REMF1: Quarterly median house prices, all capital cities (from March 1980)
  • REMF2: Quarterly median other dwellings prices, all capital cities (from March 1980)
  • REMF3: Quarterly median house prices by zones within capital cities (from September 1998)
  • REMF4: Quarterly median other dwellings prices by zones within capital cities (from September 1998)
  • REMF14: Quarterly median house prices, major regional cities (from December 2000)
  • REMF15: Quarterly median other dwellings prices, major regional cities (from December 2000)

Rents and Vacancy Rates:

  • REMF5: Quarterly median house rents, all capital cities (from March 1982)
  • REMF6: Quarterly median other dwellings rents, all capital cities (from March 1988)
  • REMF7: Quarterly median house rents by zones within capital cities (from September 1998)
  • REMF8: Quarterly median other dwellings rents by zones within capital cities (from September 1998)
  • REMF11: Quarterly vacancy rates for capital cities (from March 1980)
  • REMF12: Quarterly median 3 bedroom house rents, major regional cities (from December 2000)
  • REMF13: Quarterly median 2 bedroom other dwelling rents, major regional cities (from December 2000)

Yields and Returns:

  • REMF9: Yields and returns for capital city 3 bedroom houses (from March 1982)
  • REMF10: Yields and returns for capital city 2 bedroom other dwellings (from June 1988)

Home Loans:

  • HAR1: Average home loans per quarter by State and for Australia (from December 1996)
  • HAR2: Average monthly loan repayments by State and for Australia (from December 1996)
  • HAR6: Total new housing commitments per quarter by State and Australia (from March 1999)

Housing Affordability:

  • HAR3: Home loan affordability indicators by State and for Australia (from March 1980)
  • HAR5: Proportion of family income required to meet average loan repayments by State and for Australia (from March 1994).
  • HAR7: Proportion of Median Weekly Family Income spent on Rent, for all capital cities, from December 1995.

Income:

  • HAR4: Median weekly family income by State and for Australia (from March 1994)

Volume of sales:

  • APMI1: Annual Financial Year Number and Value of Houses, Other Dwelling and Land Sales for each State and Territory (from FY 99/00)
